It was the second successive early French Cup exit for Les Parisiens after last season's last-16 loss to OGC Nice.

The disappointing result did not sit well with the Brazilian defender, who expressed his thoughts after the match.

“We have to shut our mouths. We wanted to go back to Paris with a victory and qualification," he said as quoted by PSG Report.

Marquinhos urged his side to improve ahead of the ensuing days.

"We have to do better, keep working and move forward. A title that goes away hurts. We are disgusted. A defeat that hurts because it’s a cup match against our great rival.”

What's next after cup disappointment?

Marquinhos and his PSG teammates will have to quickly recover from the French Cup exit, with a number of difficult assignments on the horizon.

Les Parisiens will first meet third-placed AS Monaco on February 11 in Ligue 1, before hosting Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League on Valentine's Day - February 14.

French Cup: Marseille downs PSG

Ruslan Malinovskyi scored an excellent second-half winner as Marseille downed rivals PSG at Stade Velodrome on Wednesday, to reach the French Cup quarter-finals.

Alexis Sanchez gave the hosts the lead just after the half-hour mark from the penalty spot, before Sergio Ramos equalised for the Parisians on the stroke of half-time.

However, Ukraine international Malinovskyi blasted the hosts back in front and they held on to the lead to beat PSG at home for the first time since 2011.

Was Messi's French Cup cursed?

Lionel Messi reverted to no. 10 for only the second time with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening, Sports Brief also reported.

Unfortunately for the Argentine genius, he was not lucky on his second occasion, as Marseille stunned the French champions.

Despite the 35-year-old donning his preferred shirt number for Les Parisiens, his side stumbled to a narrow 2-1 defeat against rivals, Olympique Marseille in the French Cup.
