Pundit Bongani Khumalo added:

"This is so sad. I think this is about as heartbreaking as it gets. He was certainly one of those players earmarked to have a bright future. He was having a fantastic season. So much promise, and so much potential. All of that is gone."

His colleague Phumudzo Manenzhe, who commentated on Andries' last match when the Maroons took on Cape Town City said:

"Thomas, it's sad for me. I want to say condolences to his family, his teammates and the footballing fraternity as a whole. I remember speaking to him after the game... I said to him 'You have got the jersey back, now'. Before I even finished, he said 'I am not giving this jersey to anyone again'.
"That said a lot about his confidence, how much he believed in his ability. It was so sad when I saw the reports that he is no more. We have lost a great talent, a man that represented South Africa at youth level. I believe he could have gone on to represent the under-23s and Bafana Bafana."

Details emerge over Andries death

The death of Stellenbosch FC's talented defender Oswin Andries has raised even more questions about what happened to him.

The club, on Saturday, released a statement that he had died, with various publications then reporting that he had been stabbed and killed in Cape Town that day. However, TimesLIVE on Sunday then reported that a source familiar confirmed that the 20-year-old had been stabbed a week ago during an altercation, before passing away several days later.

The article detailed how Andries played against Cape Town City on Saturday, 27 January, before being attacked in an incident after the match "somewhere in Cape Town or Paarl".
