However, TimesLIVE on Sunday then reported that a source familiar confirmed that the 20-year-old had been stabbed a week ago during an altercation, before passing away several days later. The article detailed how Andries played against Cape Town City on Saturday, 27 January, before being attacked in an incident after the match "somewhere in Cape Town or Paarl". The particular fixture took place at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, for geographical purposes.

The unnamed source continued by telling the publication that Amajita captain attended training during the week but did not participate, showing no signs of physical injury and discomfort. The club then heard about his death after their match against Chippa United on Saturday, 04 February, which kicked off at 3.30pm. What remains to be established now is the exact cause of death.

According to IOL, police spokesperson Capt Nowonga Sukwana said:

“Oshwin Andries passed away in hospital on February 4 [Saturday] at 9.40pm after his family took him to the hospital. He was treated for a stab wound and released and then his family took him to Paarl Hospital. Circumstances around his stabbing are still under investigation.”

In another IOL report, Andries' brother Lee-Irwin told the publication (Weekend Argus) that the suspect in his death had been antagonised by Oswin's "bantering" at a get-together in Klapmuts.

“He was making a joke and that irked the suspect. He stabbed my brother from the side, repeatedly,” said Lee-Irwin.
“My mommy was taking him to the hospital yesterday, and he passed away in her car, in her arms. She is extremely distraught.”
