  • It's clear that Pitso Mosimane has a long way to go before fully winning over the Al Ahli Saudi fanbase
  • The revered South African coach lost for the first time on Thursday in the Saudi First Division League, resulting in his apology to fans
  • While it was accepted on the whole by the reasonable, there was a significant overreaction among certain sections of the club's supporters

Imagine losing a match as a coach for the first time in four months since taking over and some already demanding for your head.

Pitso Mosimane is one such person, having to deal with a minor but loudly irate section of the Al Ahli Saudi fanbase. His side was thumped 4-1 by Al Akhdoud in a Saudi First Division League match on Thursday, which saw him apologise for the embarrassing nature of the loss.

Up to that point, he had expertly guided the side to first place on the log standings, which was acknowledged by a majority of supporters who understand the unpredictable nature of sport. However, some absolutely lost the plot.

"Unfortunately, you did bad tonight and you were the main cause of this catastrophic result!!! Sometimes I feel that you don’t want the team to win !!!! "

"We don't want excuses, Mr. Pitso, you brought shame to this club in this match, but you have to understand that some players we don't want to see again, and you must be playing with 6 foreign professionals. "

Another wrote:

“Your apology is not accepted, and I hope that you will be dismissed as soon as possible because the team in your presence has no technical identity and only wins by supplication. The team is weak physically, tactically, and organizationally, the reason is your numerous unjustified vacations with your employees. I hope you will be expelled as soon as possible.”

Mosimane apologises to supporters

Pitso Mosimane has very high standards.

This showed again in the dugout of Saudi First Division League side Al Ahli Saudi. The club lost for the first time under the South African's tutelage since he took over towards the end of last year, suffering a thumping and costly 4-1 defeat to Al Akhdoud last night, something for which he apologised on social media.

Since taking over, Mosimane guided Al Ahli to first place on the log table going into the match. However, the loss dropped them down to third place, tied on 37 points with Akhdoud (first) and Al Hazm (second).

Al Ahly player blames Mosimane

Some in Egypt are just not going to let Pitso Mosimane be at peace in Saudi Arabia.

Despite a trophy-laden period of almost two years with the Cairo juggernauts, the respected South African coach was the target of criticism from both inside and outside the club for several reasons. The latest one is current player Mohamed Mahmoud, who fell out of Mosimane's use in matches.

The player was injury-plagued from the second he arrived at the club in 2019, before being loaned out to Al Ittihad in Alexandria to get some much-needed game time.
