Major League Soccer has expressed its pain at the tragic death of Charlotte FC defender Anton Walkes early on Thursday, January 19 following an accident in South Florida.

Charlotte FC announced the 25-year-old English defender passed away after he was involved in a boat accident that occurred near the Miami Marine Stadium.

According to the MLS Soccer, Charlotte FC described Walkes as a tremendous son, father, partner, and teammate whose joyous approach to life touched everyone he met.

Walkes who was nurtured through the Tottenham Hotspur academy was discovered unconscious following a crash of two boats and received CPR from Miami Fire Rescue Wednesday but died early Thursday.

The 25-year-old defender started 21 games for Charlotte in the MLS and has previously had loan spells with Atlanta United and Portsmouth, before going on to have permanent spells at both clubs.

Meanwhile, the football community are paying tribute to Charlotte FC defender, Anton Walkes who passed away on Thursday morning after a boat accident.

Former Premier League club, Portsmouth took to social media to pay their respect to the English defender who died at the age of 25.

Atlanta FC also joined several clubs around the world to pay their respect to Walkes.

Other MLS clubs including Inter Miami and Austin FC have also tweeted their condolences after the news broke of Walkes passing.
