  • Erik ten Hag has criticized Manchester United's previous activities in the transfer market
  • Ten Hag has claimed that the club used a lot of money to sign many average players
  • Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria are among the players who failed to impress in Manchester

Erik ten Hag has slammed Manchester United for using a lot of money to make average signings in the past.

Ten Hag is nearly six months into the job and has already overseen one full transfer window as he continues to mould the club to his own liking.

The former Ajax manager has criticized how business was conducted at the club. Manchester United have been on the spot several times for spending heavily on players who failed to live up to their potential once they switched to Old Trafford.

Players who flopped at Manchester United

Paul Pogba was at one time Manchester United's most-expensive signing. The French midfielder only showed glimpses of his quality during his six-year stay in Manchester. It has been argued that Pogba performed way better for his national team than for his club.

The likes of Memphis Depay, Romelu Lukaku, Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez also come to mind. Sanchez swapped Arsenal for the Red Devils and was expected to take the club to greater heights. The Chilean however failed to make an impact and is on record regretting his move.

Ten Hag's signings

Ten Hag has already signed Casemiro, Antony, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez, Martin Dubravka and Jack Butland. It is expected he will seal a deal for a striker this January, preferably Wout Weghorst.

The 52-year-old has disclosed what he will be looking to implement and avoid at the club as far as new signings are concerned.

"The club has bought an unimaginable number of players in recent years who have not been good enough. Most purchases have been average - and at United average is not good enough. United's shirt weighs heavily. Only real personalities, who can perform under great pressure, can play here," as quoted by MEN.

Ten Hag's side are on a steady rise after an initial lackluster start to the season. They are currently fourth on the log with 35 points.

Why United can't sign Mbappe and Bellingham

Sports Brief has also reported that Erik ten Hag is among the many managers worldwide who would kill to have Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham play for them.

The two stars are among the best young prospects in world football. Ten Hag has revealed that he would love to have both stars at Manchester United as he continues with his rebuild at Old Trafford.
