  • Aguero is now set to return to football with Barcelona de Guayaquil at the end of January

Sergio Aguero left Manchester City after the club lost the 2021 UEFA Champions League to Chelsea.

He then joined La Liga giants Barcelona with the hope of playing alongside Lionel Messi, who left the club before they could share the field.

Aguero's illustrious career ended a few months into his second stint in La Liga, due to heart problems which emanated from breathlessness suffered during a game against Alaves.

Aguero is now set to return to action with Barcelona - not in Spain, but rather a club in Ecuador.

Aguero confirms return to action

The 34-year-old confirmed he will be a guest player in a yearly friendly hosted by Ecuadorian club, Barcelona de Guayaquil. He made this known in a statement, quoted by AS.

“I look forward to Noche Amarilla, to have fun and have a good time with the fans of Barcelona SC. I have had check-ups from the cardiologist, I am very well and I have already started training, so I will be able to play in the Noche Amarilla,” he said.

As reported by Daily Post, Noche Amarilla is a traditional yearly friendly played by the club and featuring a football legend, with Brazilian icon Ronaldinho having taken part in the match in 2016.

Aguero angered Messi in Qatar

Sports Brief earlier reported that Aguero said he angered Messi during the World Cup celebration by drinking too much alcohol, and the PSG man had to say something.

The former Manchester City man joined in the celebration by wearing Nicolas Otamendi's shirt, and was seen holding the trophy at the Lusail Stadium alongside his former teammates.

Aguero carried Messi on his shoulders to replicate the iconic photograph from the 1986 FIFA World Cup, in which late legend Diego Maradona featured.
