United were linked with the player late last year and German journalist, Florian Plettenberg claims the Old Trafford outfit are still interested in the star, Sports Mole reports.

The journalist tweeted:

"News Choupo-Moting: First meeting about a new contract between [Hasan] Salihamidzic, Neppe, Choupo's father & his agent today. Good talks but no fast decision. He doesn't want to be the backup next season. Clubs like #MUFC still pushing for a transfer in winter."

The 33-year-old has been in impressive form for Bayern during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 11 goals and registering three assists in 16 appearances in all competitions.

Old Trafford mass exodus looms

Meanwhile, the January transfer window could be marked with some departures from Old Trafford, as Erik ten Hag seeks to build a team that can challenge for trophies.

It is understood that Man United have less money to spend during this window, with the club keen to sign a short-term replacement for Ronaldo after he departed the club in November 2022.

The publication claims the Red Devils could be forced to cash in on so-called deadwood players, in order to raise money for new additions.

Gabby urges United title challenge

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Premier League striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Manchester United should be challenging Arsenal for the Premier League title.

The Red Devils are the form team so far this part of the season, having won all four games since the resumption of club football after the World Cup.

Agbonlahor, a former Aston Villa striker, now believes it might be time to start taking the Old Trafford residents seriously as title contenders.
