  • Manchester United have been in superb form since the resumption of club football
  • The Red Devils find themselves in fourth place, nine points behind leaders Arsenal
  • A former Aston Villa man believes Erik ten Hag’s men are genuine title contenders

Former Premier League striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Manchester United should be challenging Arsenal for the Premier League title.

The Red Devils are the form team so far this part of the season, having won all four games since the resumption of club football after the World Cup.

They were impressive once again on Tuesday, as they blew away Bournemouth 3-0 to tighten their grip on the Champions League places.

As it stands, Man United are just one point behind Manchester City in second place, although that gap could be extended to four if the Citizens beat Chelsea on Thursday.

Agbonlahor, a former Aston Villa striker, now believes it might be time to start taking the Red Devils seriously as title contenders.

"I said this last week; I said that Manchester United should be looking at a title race," he told TalkSport.

While some called the former player crazy for his comments, he believes the Red Devils are in prime position.

"A point behind Manchester City now, nine points behind Arsenal; Arsenal could still drop points. Manchester United have got to be looking at pushing Arsenal."

The Gunners recently dropped points after a frustrating draw against Newcastle, but the result will not be too alarming for Mikel Arteta’s team, who still enjoy a healthy lead at the top of the table.

Man United meanwhile are set for several tough tests in the coming weeks, as they face off against Arsenal in their next Premier League encounter.

This will be followed by another equally tough derby against Manchester City - two teams which, according to Gabby, are ten Hag’s rivals for the title.

Chelsea want Arsenal transfer hijacked

Sports Brief also reported on how Chelsea are planning to swoop on Mykhaylo Mudryk, despite keen interest from Arsenal.

The Ukrainian forward has been a top transfer target for the Gunners, who are seeking a replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal have been in the driving seat in the pursuit of the 21-year-old, with the north Londoners understood to be confident of landing the star forward this January.
