Swiss Giants FC Zurich Complete Signing of Ghana Forward Daniel Afriyie

Black Stars forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has completed his move from Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak to FC Zurich in Switzerland.

The 21-year-old signed a three-year deal to join the Swiss topflight side in the winter transfer window.

The World Cup squad member is currently with the Black Galaxies team in Algeria and will join his new club after the Championship of African Nations, a tournament reserved for players plying their trades in the domestic leagues.

FC Zurich confirmed the signing of the striker on their official website after all paper works were completed.

"The 21-year-old striker Daniel Afriyie is transferring from the Ghanaian first division club Hearts of Oak to FCZ with immediate effect and has signed a contract until the summer of 2026. The parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the transfer," wrote the club.

Afriyie Barnieh won the Ghana Premier League and two FA Cup with Hearts of Oak in his three-year stay at the club. He scored 13 goals in 69 appearances.

Head of sports at FC Zurich, Marinko Jurendic is delighted with the signing of the Ghana international.

"Daniel Afriyie is a dynamic and versatile attacking player who has a courageous style of play. He should take the next step in development at FCZ and give our game further opportunities forward," he said.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Daniel Afriyie Barnieh's mother broke down in tears after her son made the final squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The Hearts of Oak talisman was named in coach Otto Addo's team for the World Cup, following his good run of form for the Phobians.

In a video posted on social media, Madam Comfort Konadu could not hold back her tears as he expressed delight in the achievement of her son.

Otto Addo has announced his final 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

At a press conference in Accra, the 47-year-old named his team with several of the notable names making his squad.

Conspicuously missing are Joseph Paintsil of KRC Genk, Majeed Ashimeru of Anderlecht and Felix Afena-Gyan.
