Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is an Arsenal fan through and through, after an old photo of the player wearing the club's jersey during his youth days in Accra popped up on social media.

Following another splendid display for the English Premier League leaders, the former Atletico Madrid star trended on social media for hours, with many claiming he is the best defensive midfielder in the world.

While the debate was raging on Twitter, a throwback photo of the player in Arsenal's uniform began circulating, suggesting why he gives his best to the Gunners.

On Boxing Day, Partey played 90 minutes before he was replaced by Mohamed El Neny, as the EPL leaders came from a goal down to beat West Ham 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

His timely tackle in the midfield led to an equaliser from Bukayo Saka, before goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah ensured the London club maintained the lead at the top of the table.

Partey joined Arsenal in the summer of 2020 from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

Thomas Partey meets Arsene Wenger

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars midfielder Partey finalle met Arsene Wenger, Arsenal's legendary former manager.

The Ghana and Arsenal star linked up with the French tactician after the Gunners defeated West Ham at the Emirates Stadium on Boxing Day.

Wenger returned to the arena for the first time since 2018 to watch his former club in action, following the resumption of the English Premier League after the World Cup break.

Nketiah scores in Arsenal win

Eddie Nketiah put the icing on the cake with a lovely finish, as Arsenal returned to Premier League action with a convincing win against London rivals West Ham.

The English-born Ghanaian, who was handed a starting role following an injury to Gabriel Jesus, repaid manager Mikel Arteta's faith in him with an incredible team goal.

Nketiah cleverly turned his marker before slotting home, to finish off a swift choreographed display from the Gunners.
