The Paris Saint-Germain superstar played an influential role in his side's successful campaign in the tournament as he netted seven times, including a brace in the final.

Daily Mail and Football Espana report that there is a plan to have Messi immortalized in Argentina by placing his face on a banknote.

Argentine newspaper outlet El Financiero disclosed that the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina is eager to mark the country's historic World Cup victory and has been working on ideas since last Sunday.

The general consideration is to have Messi's face put onto a new 1,000-Peso bill, with mock-ups of the 1,000-Peso note being discussed going viral.

2022 World Cup top awards

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Messi was crowned Player of the Tournament, after leading Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title.

The Argentina star netted a brace as the South Americans defeated France on penalties, to win their third Mundial star.

Messi beat Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe to the top award, while the Les Bleus forward won the golden boot after netting a hat-trick in the final.
