France are back home from Qatar after their heroics at the World Cup where they failed in their bid to defend their title after a final loss to Argentina.

As the players appeared on the balcony of the opulent Hotel de Crillon, enthusiastic fans gathered at the Place de la Concorde square set off fireworks, waved French tricolore flags, and screamed the French national anthem.

According to Sky News, team captain, Hugo Lloris, and manager Didier Deschamps waved to the crowd before being joined by Kylian Mbappe, who drew a thunderous cheer from spectators.

The team, however, was unable to hide their sorrow over the final defeat with Mbappe and Olivier Giroud seen fighting to grin as they were greeted by supporters.

France's hopes of winning the World Cup for the second time in a row were shattered in the thrilling final, which Argentina won 4-2 on penalties.

France team grateful for reception from supporters

The France squad wore brave smiles to show appreciation for the thousands of supporters that had come out to support them following their arrival from Qatar, Daily Mail reports.

Flares and other pyrotechnics were let off by the crowds watching on as they showed their appreciation to the national team who narrowly missed out on defending their World Cup title.

The France team appeared grateful for the reception they received from the 50,000 supporters who had stayed out late to welcome the team in freezing conditions in Paris.

Mbappe cut a dejected look as France arrived home

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Kylian Mbappe is definitely still hurting over France’s World Cup final loss as he cut a dejected look as the national team arrived back home from Qatar.

Mbappe who scored 8 goals in the tournament in Qatar, failed to win the World Cup for the second time in his career after France lost via penalties to Argentina in the final.

The entire French squad understandably appeared to be in glum spirits after their efforts in a heroic comeback were undone in a dramatic shootout.
