Details have emerged of what French president Emmanuel Macron told a devastated Kylian Mbappe after their World Cup final defeat to Argentina.
Mbappe was inconsolable after France lost the match, after an epic post-match penalty shootout at the Lusail Stadium.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar was among the standout players during the tie, as he netted a stunning hat-trick to force the match into a penalty shootout.
However, his efforts made little to no difference, as La Albiceleste emerged as the victors after scoring all four of their spot kicks.

Metro UK reports the outcome left Mbappe completely heartbroken and he could be seen cutting a dejected face during the awards ceremony.
Macron consoles Mbappe
President Macron was among the high-profile people spotted consoling Mbappe after the match, with the head of state seen having a conversation with the PSG ace.
Speaking on what he said to Mbappe, President Macron revealed that he reminded the star forward he is still young and can still achieve the feat once again in his career.
"Kylian Mbappe is a great player, but he’s young and I reminded him of that. I told him he’s only 24 and he was the World Cup's top scorer. He’s won a World Cup before, he’s been to another final," Macron divulged to RMC.
President Macron explained he was as devastated as Mbappe, but that was in the nature of sport.
"I told him he had made us all very proud, and in the end, we’ve lost a football match, we came so close..."

Neymar congratulated Messi with a brief message, and fans were quick to notice that he did not have a message of consolation for another of his teammates - Mbappe.
