According to Football London, Argentina's success at the expense of France saw many conclude the Ronaldo versus Messi debate is now a forgone conclusion, with the PSG star's awe-inspiring performance in the final cementing his legacy as the greatest footballer to have ever graced the sport.

Weighing in on the discussion, Ancelotti, who coached Ronaldo during his stint with Real Madrid, believes the rivalry between the pair elevated their games to a dizzying height.

“The Ronaldo and Messi rivalry motivated both of them and kept the competition high," he said as quoted by MadridXtra.

Ancelotti, who prefers to remain neutral in the debate, acknowledged Messi's World Cup triumph but was quick to throw in Ronaldo's excellence in the Champions League.

"Messi ended with a World Cup and Ronaldo didn’t, but he had an extraordinary career, especially with Real Madrid.”
