Barcelona Femeni striker Asisat Oshoala has hailed the incredible performance of Lionel Messi during Argentina’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia.

Messi produced a blockbuster performance, as La Albiceleste defeated the 2018 runners-up at the famous Lusail Iconic Stadium.

The former Barcelona captain gave his side the lead from the spot and also assisted Julian Alvarez in one of his goals, as the South Americans won the tie 3-0.

The world stood at its feet to once again enjoy the veteran's magic, as the 35-year-old delivered a masterclass on the night.

After the game, Nigerian star Asisat Oshoala praised the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, both in Pidgin English and Yoruba dialect.

She wrote in the Naija parlance:

“Forget say one thing one thing, I mean emotions aside, agba awo ni bobo Messi yi. Shanko Rashidi," along with a ArgentinaVsCroatia hashtag.

Di Maria consoles Luka Modric

Meanwhile, Angel di Maria consoled former teammate at Real Madrid, Luka Modric after the veteran's Croatia was knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup by a rampant Argentina.

Winger di Maria was an unused substitute, as Lionel Messi inspired the South Americans to a 3-0 victory in Qatar.

Modric, who was substituted in the second half, watched from the bench as the referee whistled for the end of the match.

Deschamps vows to stop Messi

Sports Brief earlier reported that the build-up to the Qatar 2022 World Cup final is already gathering pace, not long after the two semi-finals saw France and Argentina advance.

The majority of the attention has been expectedly focused on Argentine captain Messi - and rightly so - as Sunday's final represents a lot for him.

France head coach Didier Deschamps has lauded the striker's great World Cup form, noting the difference in him now from four years ago.
