Real Madrid star Rodrygo has apologised to Neymar Jr for 'denying' him a chance to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Neymar's Brazil were sent packing in the quarter-final of the tournament, after they lost to the 2018 finalists Croatia.

The Samba Boys were among the favourites to be crowned champions owing to their squad depth, which was a mixture of talent and experience.

However, their World Cup dream was cut short at the hands of Croatia via an epic penalty shootout.

The match ended 1-1 after extra time, with Neymar initially appearing to have won it for Brazil, only for the Vatreni to equalise with a few minutes left on the clock.

The Selecao missed two of their four spot kicks, with Rodrygo missing the most crucial one as the South Americans got eliminated.

Rodrygo apologises to Neymar

It has now emerged that Rodrygo apologised to Neymar for not only costing the team, but also 'postponing' the PSG star's dream of winning the World Cup.

Neymar shared details of his private conversation with Rodrygo on Instagram in the wake of their Qatar exit, with the Real Madrid ace pleading with the ex-Barca star not to retire.

"Sorry for everything and for postponing your dream too. I hope that you continue with us, so we can conquer together," ESPN cited Rodrygo's message to Neymar.

The 2022 edition of the World Cup represented the best chance for Neymar to add the achievement to his already glittering football career.

Neymar's message after elimination

Sports Brief earlier reported that Neymar shared a message after Brazil's World Cup elimination, where he poured his heart out and admitted how difficult it will be to forget.

He claimed he would rely on family and friends to regain his strength, also speaking on how much it hurt to see a dream crumble and not be realised.

Neymar will return to PSG as they continue to push for the Ligue 1 title. The other two in PSG's attacking trio, Mbappe and Messi are still at the World Cup for France and Argentina respectively.
