The champion's next opponent is record setter Morocco who beat Portugal to become the first African nation to make the semi-final of the World Cup.

The defeat leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of the English fans who see their dream of bringing it home collapse yet again to add to the disappointment of the Euro final defeat at Wembley.

France welcomed in style

The French players returned to their Al Messila camp in Doha to a fanfare. The players walked through the midst of fans raising flags, balloons in a show of happiness.

Match winner Olivier Giroud walked through the fans in smiles and shaking fans while Antoine Griezmann danced round the circle formed by the fans.

Former Arsenal player Matteo Guendouzi embraced Adrien Rabiot and Marcus Thuram as he jumped through the fans with busts of balloons and instrumental playing in the background.

The video which was uploaded on the official Twitter page of Les Bleus was captioned we don't want to go home, we are fine here.

Hakimi sends message to Mbappe

Sports Brief earlier reported that Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi sent a message to his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe ahead of their semi-final match.

Mbappe was not at his menacing best against England but the focus put on him allowed other members of the France squad to operate to the demise of the English team.

France will hope to get the better of Morocco and reach the finals while Morocco will hope to continue their fairy-tale and historic run. France earlier lost to another North African nation Tunisia inthe group stage.
