Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot was close to joining Manchester United in the summer, after both clubs agreed on a transfer.

The deal collapsed after Rabiot and the Red Devils failed to reach an agreement over personal terms. He stayed in Turin and has become an integral member of Max Allegri's squad.

Rabiot has now expressed his desire to one day play in England as it suits his characteristics, but he has no club in mind for a transfer.

What Adrien Rabiot said

Rabiot, who is on international duty with France at the World Cup, spoke of his desire to play in the Premier League in a press conference, as quoted by GFFN.

“I’ve always said I would like to play there. Will it be at the end of my contract at Juventus? I have no idea."

Rabiot has started all games for France at the World Cup bar the third group game, a 1-0 loss to Tunisia. He scored in the 4-1 win over Australia in the opening game.

What happened in the summer?

According to Manchester Evening News, the deal collapsed due to Rabiot's hefty wage demands, despite Man United having an agreement with Juventus for the transfer.

"It’s true; there were contacts with Premier League clubs, but in the end, I was lucky to stay. Perhaps it was the best decision. The Premier League is the most followed league, but I don’t think about the future."

The Old Trafford outfit went after other midfield targets, also failing to land Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong and eventually signing Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Manchester United target Moises Caicedo

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester United have moved on from the signing of Rabiot and are looking to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, who have set an asking price of £70m.

Brighton beat the Red Devils to the signing of the Ecuador midfielder in 2021, and he has become a more mature midfielder and is attracting interest from top Premier League clubs.

De Jong is another player United is interested in, despite the Dutch star's defiance. He claims he is settled in Spain and has no plan to move.
