Manchester United are in the market to shop for midfielders despite only signing Brazilian midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid last summer.

Erik Ten Hag will be looking to add to Manchester United's midfield options with Scott McTominay and Fred largely unreliable for the Dutch manager.

Manchester United have now rekindled their interest in Moises Caicedo who they missed out on in 2021 while trying to sign him from Ecuador but he joined Brighton instead.

Brighton has now made him a star and one for the eyes of top clubs and could lose him just two years after signing him from Independiente del Valle.

£70m price for Moises Caicedo

Brighton have set an asking price of £70m for Moises Caicedo, according to The Sun. This is to alert the chasing clubs they want to keep him or get paid heavily to lose him.

Caicedos stock has risen so high, for a player relatively unknown two years ago and signed by the Seagulls for just a small fee of £3.6m from Ecuador.

Newcastle and Chelsea are the other two clubs interested in the Ecuadorian. With the asking price set, Brighton are resigned to the fact that he will leave the Amex Stadium possibly in January.

Cody Gakpo to replace Ronaldo?

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester United have identified Cody Gakpo as the favourite candidate to replace Cristiano Ronaldo whose contract was terminated.

Manchester United head coach Erik Ten wants to work with his former players or players with Dutch connections. He signed Antony and Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and is also interested in Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.
