  • England beat Senegal 3-0 to qualify for the quarter-final stage of the 2022 World Cup
  • The Three Lions midfielder called for more respect from the English media and fans
  • England will face defending champions France who beat Poland 3-1 in a routine win

The Three Lions of England made light work of the Teranga Lions of Senegal in their round of 16 tie. England ran out three-nil winners in the one-sided affair.

The media failed to acknowledge the brilliance of the team however, attributing the win to Senegal's poor outing defensively and the absence of captain Sadio Mane.

England midfielder Declan Rice has now made a rallying cry to the media and fans of English football, to give credit where it is deserved and to not look for ways to downplay the team's efforts.

The Three Lions' next opponent in the quarter-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup is defending champions France, a match where the English will either prove they deserve respect or continue to be disregarded.

Does England deserve more respect?

Rice has been one of England's brightest stars in Qatar, doing his role effectively by protecting the defence and breaking up opponent's play.

He has also been one of the most vocal members of the team, calling for respect for the team while speaking to the BBC, as quoted by Hammers World:

"I feel like everyone needs to start giving us the credit. Every time we win a game, people try to pick apart something and if it was another nation, they would be talking about how it was a masterclass performance. I think that was us tonight," he said.

Rice to leave West Ham

Sports Brief earlier reported that Rice discussed his trophy ambitions and has hinted that hecould be set for a move away from West Ham to a club competing in the Champions League.

Rice was in the news during the week after dropping the bombshell. He said he wants to be remembered for playing at the biggest stage at the end of his career.

West Ham have been holding out for about £100m to sell their star midfielder since 2020, but with his seeming desire to leave, they could lower their asking price amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
