Argentina suffered one of the most shocking defeats in World Cup history following their 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The Copa America champions started the game on the front foot and then opened the scoring from the penalty spot, which Lionel Messi converted.

The South Americans continued their absolute dominance of the game, putting three more goals in the back of the net - only for each to be ruled out for offside.

The Green Falcons were able to stage an incredible comeback in the second half thanks to goals from Saleh Alshehri and Salem Aldawsari in a space of five minutes which turned the game on its head.

Aldawsari's sensational curling goal was enough to give Saudi Arabia a sensational victory against the pre-tournament favourites in a Group C encounter.

Plenty of Saudi fans inside the Lusail Stadium went gaga as the ball nestled into the back of the net.

And so did those on Arabic commentary, who delivered a moment to remember for millions watching at home.

Saudi Arabia ends Argentina's winning run

Meanwhile, lowly-ranked Saudi Arabia ended Argentina's 36-game unbeaten streak in the first game of Group C, with a major upset at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Asian champions mustered a comeback for the ages after Lionel Messi opened the scoring for La Albiceleste from the penalty spot.
