The football world is collectively attempting to pick its jaw from the floor.

Argentina has just been sent packing by Saudi Arabia in one of the great all-time upsets at a FIFA World Cup.

The Asian giants came back from a 1-0 deficit to turn over their prestigious opponents 2-1 at the majestic Lusail Stadium, the venue of the 2022 edition's final.

It turns out that one brave soul dared to call this ridiculous result. Kenyan radio DJ Lotan Salapei, speaking during SuperSport's coverage of the match in the 'Social Corner' segment, was resolute that Al-Suqour Al-Akhdhar would trip up La Albiceleste.

He said it was a David and Goliath contest and admitted the writing seemed to already be on the wall.

"This is the beautiful game of football, and the one thing that I know about football is that boss - anything can happen. I am putting my money on a 2-1 victory for the mighty Saudi Arabia."

Salapei was a bundle of nerves and tension as the match wound down, before exploding with joy when the referee blew the final whistle, vindicating his brave call.

Saudi ends Argentina’s 36-game streak

Saudi Arabia pulled off an absolute upset at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after the Green Falcons stunned Lionel Messi's Argentina at the Lusail Stadium.

The Asian giants turned the fully-packed 80,000 capacity state-of-the-art edifice upside down, when they clawed back from 1-0 down to secure a famous 2-1 victory against La Albiceleste, as reported by Sports Brief.

Ranked third in the world and on a 36-game unbeaten streak, Argentina commenced their bid for a third World Cup against minnows Saudi Arabia - but the task was not as simple as they would have hoped.
