The Barcelona midfielder was linked to a reunion with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, but he rejected the idea.

La Blaugrana are still trying to sell him in the January transfer window, with United once against the club’s first option.

However, as reported by Goal, de Jong shot down that idea and committed his future to the Catalan club - where he sees himself playing 'for as long as possible'.

“I am very happy in Barcelona. When I play, it’s great and in terms of living here, life is perfect. I personally hope [to play here] for another eight or 10 years,” he said.

The statement will be a big blow for sides like United and Liverpool. The Anfield-based side were also hoping to lure the Dutchman to England, with one World Cup worker also begging de Jong to join Liverpool recently.

Did Barcelona leak his contract?

While de Jong is happy at the club, he isn’t exactly happy with management. As noted by Barca Universal, de Jong accused the club of leaking his contract details to the media.

“I blame those people at the club who wanted me to leave. They are Barça for me because they run the club. One day a newspaper published the details of my contract.

De Jong said that if he didn't reveal the contract details and only the club itself was privy to that knowledge, the info leak must have come from Barcelona.

De Jong's relationship with Xavi

De Jong also touched on whether he ever felt as if the club coach, Xavi wanted to sell him. He added that he never had the feeling that Xavi was against him.

He explained that it was difficult for Xavi because he didn’t make the decisions, witht the club making the financial decisions.

De Jong asked about Liverpool

Where will Frenkie de Jong play his football next season? One World Cup worker hopes that it’s Liverpool FC, Sports Brief earlier reported.

While answering questions during a press conference, de Jong was asked about his interaction with a migrant worker.

The Dutch star then revealed that the man begged him to join the Reds, while teammate and Liverpool Reds defender Virgil van Dijk looked on.
