  • Roberto Firmino took to Instagram to express his disappointment at being omitted from Brazil’s World Cup squad
  • The final 26-man squad was named on Monday, November 7 and Firmino was a surprise exclusion
  • Firmino, who has been in form for Liverpool, said it was “not his dream” to miss out on possibly his last ever World Cup

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino took to social media to share his disappointment after missing out on the final 26-man Brazil squad for the World Cup.

Firmino, who has an impressive 55 caps for Brazil, was one of the big names to miss out on coach Tite’s final squad for the Qatar World Cup.

In attack, the Brazil coach went for the much younger Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Anthony and Raphinha.

Barely 24 hours later and Firmino took to his Instagram to give his general thoughts on the snub through an emotional statement.

The Liverpool forward started by thanking supporters for messages of encouragement, saying: 'Passing by to say thank you for all the lovely messages,'
He added: 'The World Cup is a dream for every player and with me it wouldn't be any different. Yesterday things didn't go the way I imagined or dreamed for my life but I can look back and have a grateful heart to God that he has already allowed me to live that dream.'

Omission from the Brazil squad will be a tough pill for Firmino to swallow, especially because he has been out with a point to prove at Liverpool.

So far this season, he has scored eight goals in 19 appearances for Liverpool and has better numbers in terms of goal contributions than Gabriel Jesus and Martinelli.

“It was, is, and will always be an honour to defend my country, especially with the gift that the Lord gave me.” He went on.

Heartbreaking video of Cunha emerges

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Matheus Cunha’s heartbreaking reaction to being left out of the Brazil World Cup squad.

The Atletico Madrid striker had hoped to make the cut as one of the strikers but was overlooked in favour of other options like Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.

Cunha took to his Instagram stories to express his feelings after Tite had announced his squad. The striker shared a video of himself looking distraught as he looked away from the camera.
