Ronaldo leads 26-man Portugal squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cristiano Ronaldo will lead Portugal into World Cup 2022, following Fernando Santos naming the veteran forward in his 26-man squad on Thursday.

The 37-year-old Manchester United striker has not been first choice for his club this season, but will be part of his country's bid to win the tournament for the first time in their history.

Ronaldo, the captain and all-time leading goal scorer in men's international football with 117, has plenty of younger teammates in support in attack, including Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix and AC Milan's Rafael Leao.

Could Osimhen replace Cristiano Ronaldo?

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly identified Victor Osimhen, the Napoli forward, as the perfect replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has entered into the final months of his two-year contract with the Red Devils, penned after his reunion with the club during the summer of 2021.

United are not likely to trigger CR7's one-year contract extension clause, with the striker struggling to make an impact for the team this season.
