Wigan Athletic have parted ways with manager Leam Richardson, just two weeks after handing him a new deal.

The club decided to part ways with the 42-year-old after a torrid run that has seen them winless in eight straight games in the Championship.

His final game in charge happened to be a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Coventry on Tuesday, November 8.

As reported by The Sun, there were hints that Richardson knew what was coming after that defeat, as he stated in his press conference that it was not time to “feel sorry for ourselves”.

"We knew our challenge last summer, coming into this league, with the group that we had, we knew it would be challenging."

Wigan have since released a lengthy statement on the club website announcing the departure of their beloved manager.

During his tenure, Richardson took the club from a League One side battling relegation back into the second tier of English football.

But a poor run of results in the new season leaves the club in danger of slipping back to League One.

“Having looked at the recent run of form that is challenging the team’s status as a Championship club, the Board have made the decision to make a change.” A statement from Wigan’s official website read.

One of the most notable moments for the gaffer as Wigan boss was when he reacted swiftly to perform CPR which ended up saving the life of forward Charles Thomas Wyke.

As a result, Wigan renamed part of their stadium’s stand ‘The Leam Richardson Stand’.

Everton fans call on Lampard’s sacking

Elsewhere, Sports Brief also reported on Everton fans’ discontent with Frank Lampard following the club’s exit from the Carabao Cup.

The Carabao Cup clash against The Cherries came at the back of a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City and Lampard decided to do an overhaul in his starting XI.

Lampard is suddenly a favourite to become the next manager to receive the sack, with his odds sitting at 3/1.
