  • Arsenal are currently top of the English Premier League table, two points ahead of Manchester City
  • One journalist believes if the Gunners win this season’s EPL, it will be similar to Leicester’s feat in 2016
  • Andy Goldstein believes Arsenal will have achieved greatly if they manage to beat City to the title

Arsenal will have achieved a major feat if they manage to win the Premier League this season, according to renowned journalist Andy Goldstein.

The Gunners are currently the runaway leaders in the Premier League after 14 matches, and there are no signs of slowing down thus far.

As of Wednesday, November 9, Mikel Arteta’s side sit two points clear of their closest rivals Manchester City, after seeing off Chelsea 1-0 in their latest Premier League game.

Having not won the league since 2004, Arsenal have been a surprise package this season. From the looks of things, Mikel Arteta’s philosophy is finally starting to take effect, three years after taking charge of the club.

Last season, The Gunners somehow managed to end the season in fifth place after making a torrid start to the 2021/22 campaign, which saw them lose their opening three games.

As the season continues to wear on, TalkSPORT's Andy Goldstein weighed in on Arsenal’s title surge this season. He claimed the Gunners will have surpassed all expectations if they somehow cross the finish line in first place come May.

According to Goldstein, the fact that Arsenal as a football club was on its knees only a few seasons ago, makes their title push more impressive.

"I think when you look at where you were at the beginning of last season after three games, you were bottom after three games with zero points, if you go on to win the Premier League this season, I think it'll be one of the greatest achievements in Premier League history," he told his co-host and former Premier League star Darren Bent.

He also observed it would be quite big if Arsenal somehow overcome City, who have enormous financial muscle, to the title.

Goldstein talked about Man City being a 'juggernaut' with Haaland being nearly unstoppable when the Norwegian star was fit.

"You've also got Liverpool. Now, Liverpool aren't doing anything at the moment but in Man City and Liverpool, you have two teams that have been discussed as the greatest sides ever. I'm not saying they are or not, but they're in the conversation."

While citing Leicester’s 2016 Premier League triumph as the greatest in the competition’s history, Goldstein said Arsenal winning it this season would be a very close second to The Foxes’ feat.

Guardiola gives update on Haaland

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Pep Guardiola's update on Erling Haaland’s injury setback.

Haaland is understood to be battling a foot injury he suffered in October, which ruled him out of City's Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund and Leicester City in the Premier League.

While he returned to action last weekend against Fulham, the Norwegian hotshot is said not to be 100 per cent fit.

According to Guardiola, his star forward is still nursing the foot complaint and faces a fitness test ahead of City's Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea on Wednesday, November 9.
