  • Samuel Eto'o has denied allegations that he resorted to black magic for Cameroon ahead of the World Cup
  • The Indomitable Lions, who reached the quarter-final of the World Cup in 1990, are desperate to take it a step further
  • Eto'o stated that such a report is an insult to the generation of players representing the country right now

The president of the Cameroon Football Association, Samuel Eto'o has denied claims that he turned to black magic for his country, ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana have reached the tournament's quarter-final stage in the past, and Eto'o believes any qualified teams from the continent can go further.

However, a report from the country says that the former Barcelona striker is desperate for the Indomitable Lions to win the World Cup.

It was claimed that the four-time CAF Player of the Year Award recipient turned to black magicians and healers, to work with the national team's players during the upcoming World Cup.

The ex-international has denied the accusations however, in a statement released after the allegations were made. Eto'o said, via Marca:

"These remarks are not only lies, but also represent an insult to all these generations of players who have won competitions thanks to their efforts in club and within selections."

Eto'o called it utterly ridiculous to claim that animals would be sacrificed inside stadiums, particularly in the 21st century.

"Writing it when you haven't seen it is fiction. Be that as it may, this process is unworthy of the reference media that is Radio France International."

Meanwhile, he has backed his country Cameroon to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, claiming that the Indomitable Lions will beat Morocco in the final.

Cameroon risk World Cup expulsion

Sports Brief earlier reported that there are concerns in Cameroon over a legal battle that could see the Indomitable Lions miss the World Cup in Qatar.

Fecafoot - the Cameroon Football Federation - are reportedly having a showdown with kit and equipment supplier Le Coq Sportif.

It is believed a Paris commercial court has intervened in the dispute and ordered the squad to wear the kit suppliers' uniforms at the 2022 World Cup in the Gulf state.
