Argentina, Brazil and France have been ranked as the top favourites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup by Barcelona Spanish defender, Marcos Alonso.

Both Argentina and France will be bidding to win their 3rd World Cup crown in Qatar having previously won the competition twice in the past while Brazil chases a 6th trophy.

According to Sportskeeda, Alonso however revealed that all three teams will need more than good form to win the World Cup as he insists luck plays a key role in a team’s success.

“There are many good selections. Brazil, Argentina, France, defending the title, but a World Cup depends on many things. They are all great but you have to have a bit of luck, arrive well and hopefully repeat Spain this time.”

France is the defending champions of the World Cup after winning the trophy in Russia in 2018 but Argentina comes to Qatar 2022 as the most in-form team having not tasted defeat in their last 35 games across competitions.

Del Piero names Argentina as favourites

Meanwhile, former Italian footballer Alessandro Del Piero has also picked Argentina as one of his favourites for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Marca reports.

Del Piero also listed Spain, Portugal, France and England amongst his top 5 favourite nations to win the FIFA World Cup set to be staged in Qatar for the first time.

The former Juventus midfielder also revealed that the 2018 losing finalist, Croatia also possess an outside chance of causing a major upset at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Messi’s World Cup dream in jeopardy

Earlier, Sports Brief reported the FIFA World Cup is around the corner, and many stars have already been ruled out through injury.

Lionel Messi’s World Cup dream is also in jeopardy with two weeks to go.

Messi is currently sidelined with an injury scare and will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s game against Lorient.
