  • Raheem Sterling has expressed optimism that Graham Potter will finally find his best team at Chelsea
  • Potter has experimented with a lot of players and a lot of formations since his appointment in September
  • Sterling has been one of the worst-hit players, with the out-and-out winger added defensive duties in a more conserved wing-back position

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has reiterated his best position on the pitch is on the wings. Sterling has faced a major change of position in recent weeks since the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel pushed for the signing of the former Manchester City star to become the center of his attacking gameplan at the club.

He started slowly under the German tactician before picking up the pace and scoring three goals in two games. Tuchel was, however, sacked and his place taken by Graham Potter.

With Potter came a lot of tweaking to Chelsea's formations and the England international found himself deployed as a wingback.

Sterling is yet to impress under Potter

He has struggled to fit in that role and he is among the few players who have failed to impress under Potter, who embarked on a 9-match unbeaten streak before the capitulation at Brighton.

Sterling has now admitted that his preferred position is on the wings. The 27-year-old was, however, quick to add that he was open to trying new things under Potter, who is still trying to find his feet.

"I feel my best position is a winger, that’s for sure. But the manager Graham Potter has his way of playing and he’s not had a full pre-season with us, he was dropped in the middle of a storm, really," he said on the Kelly and Wrighty show.
"He has come in and grabbed it with both hands and is trying to figure out the best personnel for positions. I keep saying I'm sure, with time, it will all gel nicely."

Chelsea will be looking to make amends when they face Dinamo Zagreb in the last match of the Champions League group stages.

Sterling sent World Cup warning amid Chelsea struggles

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Graham Potter suffered his first defeat as Chelsea boss when his former team inflicted an embarrassing 4-1 defeat on Saturday, October 29th.

The Blues were down 3-0 in the first half and were completely outplayed by Roberto de Zerbis' team. Raheem Sterling, an ever-present player on Potter's team, has been heavily criticised for his performance against the Seagulls.

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has said the forward produced a poor performance and, on his current form, he shouldn't be at the World Cup.
