Sulley Muntari has finally opened up on his brief time at Manchester United during the early days of his career.

The former Ghana midfielder travelled to England for trials at Manchester United but failed to secure a deal because he had no international experience.

Despite his lack of international appearance at senior level, United made him join feeder club Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

However, after weeks of trying to get a deal, Udinese came calling and Muntari felt it was right to make a move.

"Man United was interested but I didn't play with the national team so I had to go to Belgium, Antwerp because they had a relationship with them. So You pick up," he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.
"Slay (Sellas Tetteh) took me to Manchester United for trials...At that time, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Beckham, and everybody so, Yes it was very good I worked with the junior team. I spent a week or two and that was when the May 9th disaster happened. I was there when it happened and I came back home.
"When I came we were waiting for United to give me the contract, so I sign and all that. So we were waiting for the contract to come but then Udinese came right away."

Muntari joined Udinese in 2001, where he spent five years with the senior team before moving to England in 2008 to play for Portsmouth.

He later joined Inter Milan, winning the treble in 2010.

Sulley Muntari admits struggling to come to terms with mother's passing

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari says he is yet to come to terms with the passing of his beloved mother, Hajia Kande.

The former Inter Milan star lost his mother in May last year.

Muntari, whose mother was supportive of his career, almost broke down in tears as he opened up on the void left in his life by her passing.
