  • Graham Potter said Kalidou Koulibaly and Matteo Kovacic are almost ready, but Kepa Arrizabalaga is not fit yet
  • Potter suffered his first defeat this past weekend when his former side, Brighton, thrashed the Blues 4-1

Chelsea have been handed injury boost from two key players, but they will have to be without goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for their Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb.

Graham Potter's side take on the Croatian side on Wednesday, November 2nd, in their final Champions League group game.

That game will be a dead rubber match since the Blues have already qualified for the last 16. Victory over AC Milan and Salzburg in their last two games ensured they will finish as Group E winners.

Potter suffered his first defeat as Chelsea boss this past weekend as his side was thumped 4-1 by Brighton, according to Sky Sports.

The result comes at a time when they are preparing to play high-flying Arsenal in a massive Premier League encounter this weekend.

Potter injury update

Potter said Kepa, who is experiencing a resurgence after unseating Edouard Mendy, who had nailed down the starting spot, will miss Wednesday's game, according to Football London.

"Kepa won't be available for the game, Slight issue with his plantar fascia. Looking at probably days but certainly not for the game tomorrow. Kovacic, just precautionary with his calf. Got a chance for the game tomorrow. We'll make the decision later on."

He said Koulibaly has an outside chance.

"He will provided there's no reaction. He trained today so he was fine. He's available and in the squad tomorrow."

The Blues will probably use the match to give minutes to players returning from injury and also fringe players.

Potter on why he subbed Kepa

Sports Brief earlier reported on Potter explaining his decision to substitute Kepa Arrizabalaga at half-time as the Blues trailed Brighton 3-0 at the Amex on Saturday.

Potter said that his decision to sub off Kepa had nothing to do with his performance in the first half.

"He felt the bottom of his foot, so I don't know, it's too early yet. It was too bad for him to carry on. So that disappoints him because he is in a really good moment."
