Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has targeted the Ballon d'Or after winning the UEFA Player of the Year award.

The Frenchman was named the best player in Europe after leading Los Blancos to LaLiga and Champions League glory last season.

He registered a remarkable 44 goals in 46 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's side Real last season, including 27 in the Spanish LaLiga to become the top scorer in Spain's top flight.

Benzema is now as the favourite for 2022 Ballon d'Or and stands good chances to win another prestigious individual award in FIFA's Men's Best Player.

"It's my childhood dream, today I'm not very far away. We'll see what happens," Karim Benzema has said, as quoted by Telefoot.
"I play because I love football, although I do have dreams, of course, like winning the World Cup or a Ballon d'Or."

This year's Ballon d'Or gala is schedlued for Paris on October 17. Lionel Messi won the prestigious award last year.

Despite being on the best of forms in his illustrious career, Benzema believes it will be an arduous task to become the highest goalscorer for Real Madrid.
