Sports Brief takes a look at the players who left Real Madrid to sign for Manchester United.

Laurie Cunningham

Cunningham was the first-ever Englishman to play for Real Madrid. In fact, he was the first English player to play in the Spanish League in general.

The winger also became the first footballer to feature for both Real Madrid and Manchester United after he joined the Old Trafford outfit on loan. He played only five games for the Red Devils.

Cunningham joined the Los Blancos from English club West Brom in 1979. He managed to make 44 appearances for the Spanish giantsReal Madrid, winning the La Liga once and the Copa Del Rey twice.

He sadly died in a car crash in 1989.

Angel Di Maria

Following is superlative performances for Real Madrid in the 2013/14 season, the Argentine winger signed for Manchester United with a big reputation, having produced a man-of-the-match performance for Real Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final.

Di Maria inherited the number 7 jersey and had a great start to his Old Trafford career. His best goal was the fabulous chipped stunner against Leicester City.

However, everything went downhill after the game at Kings Power Stadium. The ex-Benfica winger fell out of favour under Louis Van Gaal and was allowed to leave the club after just one season to join PSG for a substantial loss..

Di María joined Manchester United for a five-year deal worth £59.7 million, becoming one of the most expensive transfers of all time.

Raphaël Varane

Varane signed for Manchester United last summer from Real Madrid. The Frenchman won three La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns during his 10-year stay in Spain.

He was seen by the Old Trafford hierarchy as a transformative signing, a player who lifted the Red Devils onto a whole different level.

But the central defender was hampered by injury problems in his debut season as United endured their worst Premier League campaign, conceding 57 goals in 38 games.

He is expected to turn things around at Manchester this season and become a key player for new manager Erik ten Hag.

The Main Reasons Why Casemiro Wants to Join Manchester United

Sports Brief earlier reported that there are three factors that pushed the former Sao Paulo defensive midfielder to seriously think about moving to Manchester.

The first reason is that Casemiro feels his time at Real Madrid is over after winning 15 major trophies, including 5 Champions League titles.

Secondly, 30-year-old Casemiro wants to experience a new environment. This is the main reason that persuaded Raphael Varane to make the switch to England last summer.

Lastly, Manchester United are offering a massive salary that is making it difficult for Casemiro to decline.
