Athletic Club Bilbao and Valencia put on an absolute thriller in La Liga at the San Mamés Stadium.

The action-packed encounter saw both sides push forward in the first half, trying to grab the opening goal. The end-to-end action didn’t let up until the halftime break whistle, which saw Athletic Club take the lead.

Álex Berenguer broke the deadlock before the half-time break, firing low to beat Giorgi Mamardashvili in the Valencia goal. Los Leones looked to grab a second in the second half as they dominated large spells of the next 45 minutes. The Williams brothers and Berenguer offered constant attacking options for the hosts as they pressed forward.

Gennaro Gattuso’s Valencia side were forced to play on the break but never created a decent chance to grab an equaliser.

Athletic did have two goals chalked off due to offside, with both Williams brothers scoring the disallowed goals.
