Athletic Club Bilbao are looking to make a move for one of their former players.

The La Liga said are said to be considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Ander Herrera.

Herrera currently plays for the Ligue 1 champions but is viewed as a surplus to France's requirements.

The new PSG coach, Christophe Galtier, has placed the Spanish player on the transfer list since taking over from Mauricio Pochettino. Herrera still has two years left of his contract with the French side.

Herrera has now been linked with a possible return to the Estadio San Mames for the new season of La Liga.

As reported by Football Espana, Herrera is trying to negotiate a contract settlement with PSG so that he can leave on a free transfer before the window closes.

The 32-year-old made 128 appearances for the side during his three years in Spain before moving on to Manchester United, TransferMarkt reported. He also played for Ernesto Valverde during his time at Bilbao. Valverde is the current coach of Bilbao.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of their season opener against Mallorca, Valverde was quizzed about Herrera’s return but remained mum on the issue.

Valverde brushed off the question by saying he wouldn’t talk about players playing for other clubs.
