  • Business mogul Elon Musk has excited Manchester United fans that he might buy the club as the fans continue to put pressure on the current owners
  • Musk, known for his jokes on Twitter, quickly clarified he was joking and that he had no interest in buying a sports team
  • He then changed tune again, saying that if he were to buy a club in future, it would be the Red Devils, indicating that he has always been a fan since his childhood

Manchester United fans have been gripped with a tinge of excitement after the World's richest man Elon Musk hinted at buying the club.

The fans have been vocal over their dissatisfaction with the current owners, the Glazers family, due to what they term as poor policies and lack of goodwill.

The Glazers family took over Manchester United in 2005, an era in which the club was dominant under Sir Alex Ferguson. They won the 2008 Champions League final, plus a couple of other domestic trophies.

Since Ferguson retired, the club has been on a downward spiral, with fans lamenting the poor transfer policies of the club.

That's why it will come as a reprieve to the fans that Musk is harbouring the idea of submitting a bid. The business magnate has built a successful empire under the Tesla Automotive company that has seen him eclipse perennial billionaires like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos on the top of the Forbes list of richest people on earth.

However, as the Guardian reports, Musk is known for putting out fun tweets; this might just be another gaffe. The University of Pennsylvania alma matter of South African roots had intimated that he will buy Twitter before the deal fell through in July. He even clarified in a separate tweet that he was joking.

But for Manchester United fans, it is the hope that kills.

Manchester United fans plan a fresh round of protests against the Glazer family

Sports Brief had earlier reported that new trouble is brewing for the embattled Manchester United owners, with the club's fans planning a fresh round of protests.

The Glazer family has been at loggerheads with the fans who have often accused them of not investing in the club.

The fans are now planning on boycotting Manchester United's next home game against Liverpool on August 22.
