  • Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is scrambling for a backup striker to assist their main number 9 Karim Benzema
  • The Italian gaffer has urged his employers to sign a forward who is in his 30s and can score 10 to 12 goals per season
  • The Los Blancos are looking to offload a few players during the transfer window, including Mariano Diaz and Borja Mayoral

Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to enter the transfer market for reinforcements ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season.

The Los Blancos are currently preparing at their base in the United States of America as they look to defend their UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles.

Carlo Ancelotti and his men lost 1-0 to arch-rivals Barcelona in their first pre-season game on Sunday without their talisman Karim Benzema.

That is a big concern for the hierarchy of the club as the team tend to struggle anytime the French international striker is absent.

With Mariano Diaz and Borja Mayoral linked with an exit, and Luka Jovic already joining Fiorentina on a free transfer, the Spanish giants are left with no viable backup for Benzema in the striking role.

And while Ancelotti recently said that Real Madrid’s transfer business for the summer was all wrapped up, that might not exactly be the case.

Per Cadena SER, the 14-time European champions could go shopping for a new striker who can guarantee them 10 to 12 goals before the window closes.

The report further states that Madrid would prefer a striker who is in his 30s and can come off the bench and score a minimum of 10 goals a season.

Carlo Ancelotti Confirms He Will Try Eden Hazard in New Position Next Season

Meanwhile, Ancelotti has confirmed that he will deploy Eden Hazard in a new position next season.

Hazard, 31, is yet to live up to the name he built for himself during a stellar seven-year stay in England.

He has only featured 66 times for the Los Blancos and scored six goals. Ancelotti's plan involves playing Hazard as a false 9 when the main striker Karim Benzema is rested.

Borja Mayoral’s Future at Real Madrid Remains Uncertain

Sports Brief earlier reported that Borja Mayoral looks likely to head back to Getafe from Real Madrid when Los Blancos return from their pre-season tour in America.

Mayoral was promoted to the Los Blancos first team in 2016 but has subsequently been loaned out to numerous clubs over the years, in between brief spells at Madrid.

The striker was last on loan at Getafe but was called up to Real Madrid’s pre-season training camp, where he hopes to force his way into the first team.
