  • Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti says he has found a new way to revive the career of Eden Hazard at the Spanish club
  • Hazard's stint at the Santiago Bernabeu has not gone to plan; he left English club Chelsea three seasons ago
  • With just 66 appearances and six goals, Hazard has barely played a vital role to Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League and two La Liga triumphs

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he will deploy Eden Hazard in a new position next season.

Hazard has been underwhelming, often plagued by injuries since he made the £88.5 million switch from Chelsea in 2019.

The 31-year-old is yet to live up to the name he built for himself during a stellar seven-year stay in England.

He has only featured 66 times for the Los Blancos and scored six goals. Ancelotti's plan involves playing Hazard as a false 9 when the main striker Karim Benzema is rested.

"My idea is to try Eden Hazard in the false 9 position. It can be good for us to have him there," Carlo Ancelotti has said, as quoted by Managing Madrid's Kiyan Sobhani.

Last season, Hazard was used in all three positions upfront, although he mostly played on the left.

Hazard struggled to find playing time under Ancelotti in the 2021/22 campaign, making just seven starts in the league last season.

Thanks to his technical abilities, Hazard in the false nine position could benefit Real Madrid in terms of possession and creativity.

Eden Hazard sends a hopeful message to Real Madrid fans ahead of next season

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Eden Hazard had offered a message of optimism to Real Madrid fans after their Champions League triumph. Hazard assured the fans that next season will be his chance to show the world what he is capable of.

The winger was signed from Chelsea in 2019 but has endured a difficult three years in Madrid due to constant injuries. This season, the Belgian has only started seven games.

Vinicius Junior has enjoyed a remarkable campaign that Hazard has had to contend with a place on the bench.
