FootballPremier League: 7 Interesting New Rules Set to Be Enforced for 2022/23 Season

- Ahead of the new campaign, there are a number of new rules that are set to be enforced
- The Premier League, along with the International Football Association Board (IFAB) have tweaked a number of rules to make the game better
With the Premier League slightly over a fortnight away fans are gearing up for another campaign that promises to have thrills and spills.
There is however a slight tweak in the laws of the game as far as the Premier League is concerned, and these adjustments have been made to make it a bit easier for all parties involved.
International Football Association Board (IFAB) along with the Premier League, made these changes ahead of the 31st Premier League campaign, and among the tweaks is the initiative to curb time wasting during matches.
As per the Daily Mail, the Premier League has okayed the new multi-ball system, which will see 10 match balls in use in each match.

Sports Brief takes a look at other rules that will be enforced next season:
1. Sending off of team officials
This will not directly affect the Premier League, but in the new season, a manager, coach or team representative will warrant a sending off if they commit an offence.
2. The referee is the official person to coin toss
Previously, coin tossing prior to kick off could be done by anyone from the referee to the team captains. This is however set to change as IFAB has decided that responsibility should solely fall on the team official.
3. 5 substitutes per match
This rule was initially approved specifically during the pandemic period for the sake of players to alleviate stress on squads.

4. Goalkeepers position in penalty kicks
In the past, it was a requirement that goalkeepers should be one foot on the line when facing a penalty.
This is set to change as goalkeepers can now start from a deeper position which can help them generate momentum to make a save.
5. Handling the ball in the area
This is an obvious one, but IFAB has now put it on paper for clarity.
“Nobody except a goalkeeper within their penalty area”
6. Restarting the ball after off-pitch incident
In the event a player is involve in an incident off the pitch that requires stoppage of play, the referee will have to restart the match with an indirect free kick to the opposing team.
