Sports Brief takes a look at other rules that will be enforced next season:

1. Sending off of team officials

This will not directly affect the Premier League, but in the new season, a manager, coach or team representative will warrant a sending off if they commit an offence.

2. The referee is the official person to coin toss

Previously, coin tossing prior to kick off could be done by anyone from the referee to the team captains. This is however set to change as IFAB has decided that responsibility should solely fall on the team official.

3. 5 substitutes per match

This rule was initially approved specifically during the pandemic period for the sake of players to alleviate stress on squads.

It has however been made permanent in the Premier League and EFL.

4. Goalkeepers position in penalty kicks

In the past, it was a requirement that goalkeepers should be one foot on the line when facing a penalty.

This is set to change as goalkeepers can now start from a deeper position which can help them generate momentum to make a save.

5. Handling the ball in the area

This is an obvious one, but IFAB has now put it on paper for clarity.

“Nobody except a goalkeeper within their penalty area”

6. Restarting the ball after off-pitch incident

In the event a player is involve in an incident off the pitch that requires stoppage of play, the referee will have to restart the match with an indirect free kick to the opposing team.
