2 African National Teams Secure World Cup Inter-confederation Play-Off Slots

Despite crashing out of the 2022 African Women Cup of Nations going on in Morocco, Cameroon have secured a passage into the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup inter-confederation play-offs.

The defeat against the Super Falcons of Nigeria was a painful one for the Cameroonian national women's team as they wanted to play in the semifinal of the 2022 AWCON.

Super forward Rasheedat Ajibade scored the only goal that helped Super Falcons to win the encounter and qualified for the 2023 World Cup.

But according to the report on GOAL, Cameroon defeated Botswana with Ajara Nchout netting the goal that gave them the win to secured their place in the inter-confederation play-offs.

Which other team has qualified for the inter-confederation play-offs?

Senegal secured their passage into the inter-confederation play-offs after edging out Tunisia 4-2 on post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Senegalese will now try their luck in the 10-team playoff in New Zealand in February 2023.

AWCON 2022: Nigeria set up fierce clash with hosts Morocco in mouthwatering semifinal fixture

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Super Falcons of Nigeria will file out against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in the second semifinal of the ongoing 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

The tantalizing fixture will hold on Monday night at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat as the winner will go straight to the final.

Both teams have already secured their respective tickets to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Nigeria remain the most successful nation in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations having won the title a record nine times, and they are the favourites for this fixture.

Although they started this tournament on a bumpy note, losing to Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the opening fixture, they have improved since then.

Randy Waldrum’s side have carved out impressive victories over Botswana, Burundi, and Cameroon to maintain their record of reaching the final four of every edition of the tournament.
