  • Icardi is highly likely to join Serie A newcomers Monza as talks with the clubs continue to progress
  • The striker is considered surplus to requirements at PSG, despite his contract running until 2024
  • He spent nine years in the Serie A, before eventually moving to PSG in 2019

Mauro Icardi could be headed back to the Serie A, after his wife Wanda Nara, who doubles up as the striker’s agent, held talks with newly-promoted Monza.

The Argentine striker, 29, is surely on PSG’s exit door after he was listed among the nine players the club is willing to sell to help free up the wage bill ahead of the new season.

He is no stranger in Italy, having spent nine years in the Serie A before eventually moving to the Parc des Princes.

In Italy, Icardi bagged 121 Serie A goals in 219 appearances, before a loan move to PSG in 2019 which eventually turned into a permanent transfer.

According to reports from RMC Sport, cited on Sunsport, Icardi’s wife has held two rounds of talks with Monza over a potential transfer, and discussions are progressing well.

Monza have risen to the Serie A with big ambitions, especially with the club backed by former AC Milan chiefs Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani.

A move to the Italian minnows sounds like a risky one for Icardi, although the striker would feel right at home as the club is located in the Lombardy region, where the striker still owns property.

Icardi’s current contract with PSG runs until 2024, but the club has instead opted to cash in on him and eight other big names in the club, including former Liverpool ace Gini Wijnaldum.

Cesc Fabregas set for shock Serie B transfer

Elsewhere, Cesc Fabregas’ career is poised to make an interesting turn as the Spaniard is reportedly on the verge of joining Serie B minnows Como on a free transfer.

The former Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona man is currently without a club after parting ways with Ligue 1 side Monaco at the end of last season.

Dennis Wise, a former Chelsea and England midfielder who won seven trophies during his career is said to have a hand in the decision to convince Fabregas to make the odd move.
