It was gathered that the live streamed clip has now been deleted from the Remo Stars YouTube page as it also showed the goalkeeper of the Ikene-based team rooted to a spot as a player of United rolled his penalty kick into the net.

Another clip on Twitter showed the moment Remo Stars awkwardly kicked away his spot-kick towards the throw-in line.

It had ended goalless in regulation time, but United won the game 3-0 after the shootout.

However, a source close to the team dismissed the “match-fixing” claims, adding that the players deliberately lost the shootout to show their grievances at the officiating of the referee.

A source said:

“Remo Stars were so pissed with the officiating throughout the match that it took a while for them to emerge for the penalty shootout.
“They only emerge to avoid sanction and then decided to show their grievances by throwing the game.”

MFM FC are relegated

Meanwhile, MFM FC are the first team to be relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League for the 2021/22 season after they suffered a surprise home loss to Niger Tornadoes.

The Lagos State team needed to win against their rivals in order to keep their hopes of beating the drop alive but were stunned 2-1 by Niger Tornadoes in front of their home support.
