  • The DStv eKasi Champ Of Champs encounter between Beke Le Beke and Mambas FC at the KwaMhlobo Sports Grounds in Meadowlands was an engrossing affair
  • The match between the two teams expected to go all the way to the final ended in a highly entertaining 2-2 draw
  • The biggest talking point of the encounter was when players from both sides brawled following a goal, with members of the crowd invading the pitch to ironically break them up

Favourites Beke Le Beke and Mambas FC played out a memorable 2-2 draw in the much-anticipated DStv eKasi Champ of Champs encounter at the KwaMahlobo Sports Grounds in Meadowlands, Soweto.

Tebogo Dlamini opened the scoring from a header coming in via a free kick in the second minute for Mambas. Lunga Maseko then equalised for Beke from a goalmouth scramble from which his swing at the ball saw it go in from a deflection by a Mambas defender in the 30th minute.

Maseko then pounced on a loose ball rolling across the front of the goals after the Mambas goalkeeper could not claim an awkward shot in the 73rd minute, giving his team a 2-1 lead. Mambas did not take this lying down, as Thabo Banyana equalised in the 79th minute from point-blank range after a neat build-up from out wide.

Following the goal, a Mambas player went to retrieve the ball from inside the goals for a quick restart in order to chase the win. However, the Beke Le Beke refused to give the ball up, which led to a mass brawl between players from both sides in the goals that the referee was helpless to stop.

Inexplicably, sections of the crowd invaded the pitch, but instead of taking part in any violent activity, the invaders were instead there to stop the fight so that the engrossing match got back under way.

There were to be no more goals as the match ended 2-2.
