FootballGhana FA to Announce Nationality Switch of Europe Born Players Next Week
- Ghana coach Otto Addo has revealed that the nationality switches of some players will be confirmed next week
- The Ghana Football Association has been in talks with several players including Tariq Lamptey, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah
- The players who will be confirmed eligible to play for Ghana will be available for the September AFCON qualifiers
Head coach of the Ghana senior national football team, Otto Addo, has disclosed that the nationality switches of at least two Europe-born players will be complete next week.
Several Europe-born Ghanaians have been in talks with the Football Association over switching allegiance to represent the Black Stars.
Notable among them are Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tariq Lamptey of Brighton and Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah.
“It’s an open secret that we have talked to a lot of players and I think latest by next week, we would know who would like to join us,” Otto Addo told Joy Sports, as quoted by Pulse.
“Surely, we would have to be very fast now because we have set a limit, if someone wants to join us he must be ready for the September window and for that we will need answers now.
“Hopefully we will know more by next week and we will see if we can get one or two players to try out during the September international break.”
FFA is expected to give clearance to these players, allowing them to play for the Black Stars in September's international break.
The coach will need these players for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi's switch will be completed in November because he already has three caps for the English national team, and the new law states such players can only switch two years after their last appearance.
Tariq Lamptey completes nationality switch
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that England-born defender of Ghanaian descent Tariq Lamptey has reportedly touched down in Ghana.
