The 21-year-old marauding full-back is currently in the capital, Accra, with his dad as he looks forward to wrapping up his nationality switch.

Tariq is not the only Ghanaian player born in the diaspora being pursued by the Ghana Football Association with Callum Hudson-Odoi, Inaki Williams and Eddie Nketiah all appearing on the radar of the football federation.

Lamptey's new teammates will host Madagascar in Cape Coast on Wednesday, June 1 before travelling to the Central African Republic for the second game.

The team will continue preparations ahead of the World Cup later this year by taking part in the Kirin tournament in Japan. Ghana will play Japan and Chile in Osaka in the middle of June.

Tariq Lamptey agrees to switch nationality

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Tariq Lamptey has agreed to switch his nationality from England to Ghana, according to London-based Ghanaian coach Freddie.

The marauding wing-back has been on the wishlist of the Ghana Football Association and the news of his nationality switch will be warmly received with the AFCON qualifiers on the horizon.

Lamptey has represented England at the youth level and recently received a call-up to the England U21 in March but is still eligible to play for the Black Stars and if the account of coach Freddie is anything to go by then the Brighton defender will be committing his future to the West African nation.
