Jordan Ayew Breaks Goal Scoring Drought for Ghana Against Japan in Kirin Cup

Jordan Ayew netted his first Black Stars goal in one year in the Kirin tournament played on Friday, June 10, 2022.

The Crystal Palace forward had failed to score for months for the Black Stars, leaving Ghanaians worried ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On a long scoring drought running from March 2021, Ayew found the back of a net with a superb goal to end his goal drought in the national team.

Jordan Ayew's last away goal in Ghana colours was on March 28, 2021, at the Accra Sports Stadium against Sao Tome and Principe in an African Cup of Nations qualifying game.

Before his goal, Japan had the lead through Yamane after he connected a defence-splitting pass from a teammate.

Today’s goal sees Ayew end a run of 12 international matches in all competitions without a goal.

The strike is expected to give him a massive confidence boost ahead of the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Jordan Ayew has now scored 19 goals in 80 games for the Black Stars since his debut in 2010.

Meanwhile, Ghana were humiliated in their opening game at the Kirin Cup after hosts Japan thumped the Black Stars at the Tokyo National Stadium.

The Black Stars suffered a 4-1 defeat to Japan following an abysmal display from a depleted Ghana side.

Coach Otto Addo was forced to change his team following ailment and injuries to most of his starters.

Jordan Ayew Handed Contract Extension at English Club Crystal Palace

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ghanaian forward, Jordan Ayew, has been handed a year contract extension as English Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

The 30-year-old forward will continue his stay at the South London club for another season following his outstanding displays for the Eagles.

Crystal Palace confirmed the extension of the Black Stars forward's contract together with three other teammates.
