A young man named Christopher Edoghogho has passed away after he reportedly slumped during a football match in Benin City.

Edoghogho, before his death, was a player for local team Angels Football Academy as it was gathered that he collapsed on the pitch barely two minutes into the kick-off of a game.

Instablog reports that the late player’s teammates stormed the Edo State Specialist Hospital in Benin and blocked the entrance as they also trooped to the ever-busy Sapele Road to protest the attitude of the medical personnel.

One of the players Okiemute Ovie disclosed that the match was underway at the Edo State School of Health, Dumez Road, when Edoghogho headed the ball and suddenly slumped on the field.

He said as per Pulse Sports:

“The game was on when Chris headed the ball to the centre cycle and went down about two minutes after then. We all thought it was one of the normal fallings that do happen on the pitch. While they were checking, the referee signalled the medical team and they came in and rushed him away.”

He further disclosed that the incident left the tournament organisers as well as the players confused as they had to abandon the game and head for the hospital, only to find Edoghogho’s corpse.

Ovie added:

“When we got to the hospital, we met the lifeless body of our colleague right inside the ambulance.”
