  • Neighbours Belgium and the Netherlands would want to kick start their UEFA Nations League campaign on a positive note tonight
  • The Red Devils and the Dutch would cross swords for the umpteenth time in Brussels as they reignite their long-standing rivalry
  • The pair have been drawn alongside Poland and Wales in League A Group 4, and both sides will play four times in the competition over the next couple of weeks

European heavyweights Belgium and the Netherlands will face each other in what promises to be an epic UEFA Nations League Group A tie at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.

Belgium's proverbial 'Golden generation' will hope to begin their quest for silverware on a good note in the Nations League, a competition in which the Red Devils finished fourth in the last edition when they host their neighbours in a titanic group opener.

The Netherlands on the other hand are still in the rebuilding process under iconic coach Louis Van Gaal and will look to bask in their World Cup qualification form when they cross swords with the Belgians tonight.

Match Preview

The Oranje lead the Red Devils in the all-time head-to-head record but the latter will be counting on their good streak of form, with their last loss coming on October 10, 2021, against European champions, Italy.

Belgium's last five home games against the Netherlands have seen the Red Devils record two wins, drawing twice and losing the other.

While Belgium boasts of an overall good home record, the Netherlands - 1988 European champions - are unbeaten in their last five away games (W3 D2).

Holland and Belgium have played out 1-1 draws in their last two matches, both of which have been friendlies.

Players to watch

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne will be the undisputed star of the Belgian team, despite branding the UEFA Nations League as 'unnecessary', the Premier League Player of the Season is expected to translate his club form to the Red Devils tonight.

On the other side of the coin, Memphis Depay would want to banish his subpar display at FC Barcelona, hoping to turn on his A-game for the Netherlands in the blockbuster tie.

France commences UEFA Nations League defence with a tricky tie against Denmark

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that France will tonight begin their UEFA Nations League title defence when they host a tricky Danish side at the Stade de France in Paris.

France will be hoping to improve after a poor Euro 2020 showing that saw them crash out of the round of 16.

Denmark, meanwhile, qualified for the World Cup in style, losing just one game of 10 games. They also put in a good showing at the Euro championships, where they went all the way to the semifinals.
